John Coppola
"I am originally from New Jersey and Sicilian ancestry.   My oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media paintings are based on personal affirmations and my spiritual journey.  Images in my paintings often develop without preliminary drawings or preconceptions.  I use dark values and theatrical lighting on these text based paintings resulting in a variety of dramatic and chiaroscuro effects while encouraging the viewer to spend some time reflecting on the emergence of line, shape, color, texture and symbolism.  My inspiration: (Renaissance) Caravaggio, (Baroque) Rembrandt, (Surrealist) Magritte, Tanguy and DiChirico."  - John Coppola
